Types of Dimension Tables in SSAS

Dimension Tables Types
Dimension table contains the master data information. A dimension table has a primary key column that uniquely identifies each dimension record. The dimension table is associated with a fact table using the primary key.

confirmed dimension — The value will be refered by more than one dimension table
junk dimension — Combined values of transaction
degenerate attribute — If a dimension data kept on a fact table for reference
Role Playing Dimension — Date dimension which act as a orderdate dimension and purchasedate dimension.

Composite KeyColumn in SSAS Cube Dimention and Fact Mapping

Composite KeyColumn SSAS Cube Dimention Fact Mapping
If the Fact Table Needs to map with the Dimension table with more than one key column in SSAS Cube.

Choose the Dimension – > Select the key field – > Properties -> Key Columns -> Add all the required Key Columns

While mapping this Fact table information to the Dimension then these key columns will appear and you can map them with Regular mapping.

Process SSAS Cubes pointing to incorrect database

Process SSAS Cubes pointing incorrect database

The cube database name is changed recently and deploy then it will have the old reference and it will fail. The resolution is to use the existing cube database and repoint it in the connection string. This way it will resolve any internal reference issue in the cube design.

Tabular Model in SSAS

Tabular Model SSAS

Tabular models are in-memory databases in Analysis Services. The xVelocity in-memory analytics engine (VertiPaq) delivers fast access to tabular model objects and data by reporting client applications such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power View.

Tabular models support data access through two modes: Cached mode and DirectQuery mode.
In cached mode, you can integrate data from multiple sources including relational databases, data feeds, and flat text files.
In DirectQuery mode, you can bypass the in-memory model, allowing client applications to query data directly at the (SQL Server relational) source.

Overall understanding of Datawarehouse Tools : SSIS, SSRS and SSAS ?

SSIS

This is an ETL Tool, ETL means EXTRACT, TRANSFORM and LOAD. you can extract the information from various source system like Oracle, MSEXCEL, SQL SERVER, MS ACCESS, DB2 etc.. All these data which we are extracting can undergo the cleaning process and making this data to information by doing some calculation and finally the Data will be pumped to the warehouse. The SSIS from Microsoft is playing a major role of ETL tool and it is helpful in the First Section of Warehouse Loading data.

SSAS

After pulling the Data to the warehouse you need to do Analytical operations and here comes the cube. You can go all the aggregate operations in this and you can prepare the cube in such a way that data is readily available for the reports.

SSRS

This is a reporting Tool and use to give the report output of the Datawarehouse or Database or SSAS to the customer. You can have Detail or graphical reports and very helpful for analyzing the results. We have KPI(Key performance indicator) reports.
