Tabular Model in SSAS

Tabular Model SSAS

Tabular models are in-memory databases in Analysis Services. The xVelocity in-memory analytics engine (VertiPaq) delivers fast access to tabular model objects and data by reporting client applications such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power View.

Tabular models support data access through two modes: Cached mode and DirectQuery mode.
In cached mode, you can integrate data from multiple sources including relational databases, data feeds, and flat text files.
In DirectQuery mode, you can bypass the in-memory model, allowing client applications to query data directly at the (SQL Server relational) source.

Overall understanding of Datawarehouse Tools : SSIS, SSRS and SSAS ?

SSIS

This is an ETL Tool, ETL means EXTRACT, TRANSFORM and LOAD. you can extract the information from various source system like Oracle, MSEXCEL, SQL SERVER, MS ACCESS, DB2 etc.. All these data which we are extracting can undergo the cleaning process and making this data to information by doing some calculation and finally the Data will be pumped to the warehouse. The SSIS from Microsoft is playing a major role of ETL tool and it is helpful in the First Section of Warehouse Loading data.

SSAS

After pulling the Data to the warehouse you need to do Analytical operations and here comes the cube. You can go all the aggregate operations in this and you can prepare the cube in such a way that data is readily available for the reports.

SSRS

This is a reporting Tool and use to give the report output of the Datawarehouse or Database or SSAS to the customer. You can have Detail or graphical reports and very helpful for analyzing the results. We have KPI(Key performance indicator) reports.

What is a KPI in SSRS ?

SSRS KPI

SQL Server Reporting Services allows you to embed indicators and Gauges in your report to analyze the data and its state. Indicators are minimal gauges that convey the state of a single data value at a glance and are mostly used to represent state value of Key Performance Indicator (KPI). Dragging an indicator to report designer will bring up a dialog box where you need to choose the type of indicator that you want to add to your report. There are several indicator types to choose from like Directional, Symbols, Shapes and Ratings and you can customize them all with different colors (other than their default color)
